Ordinary Bar Stool Repurposed - Rope End Table

 

Last summer, I found a couple of barstools at a yard sale for $2 a piece.  One  is used as a plant stand on our porch.  The other has been repurposed as an end table in our loft.

 

 

To do this, I took a traditional barstool….

….and a package of rope that I purchased from Hobby Lobby.

Starting from the outside edge and working my way to the center, I hot glued the rope to the seat of the barstool.  I unexpectedly ran out of rope just as I got to the center......

...but lucky for me, I had some scrap rope in my craft drawer that I saved from the packaging of a gift set someone gave me.  Yeah, I keep stuff like that for moments like this;)

I love the texture the rope adds, and that’s why I chose to use it. 

Lastly, I painted the green legs with some sample Louis blue ASCP (Annie Sloan chalk paint) that was sent to me with a recent purchase, and then I finished it off by applying a coat of ASCP clear wax.

 

 

The seat of the stool is the perfect size for a lamp, making a barstool a really great repurposed end table.

$2 Yard Sale Chairs Get a $2 Paint Job

Monday, I posted “Goodwill Desk Gets a Green Makeover”,and yesterday I posted “Upcycled DeskOrganizers.”  Today, I want to talk about the chair that I found to go with the green desk.

I scored two of these chairs at a garage sale last year for $2 a piece.

I didn’t paint the chair I have at the desk.  I thought the green desk was enough color in this particular space.

I did, however, paint the other chair.  Using a $2 can of red spray paint, this chair got a pop of color!

When using spray paint, it is important to use thin even strokes.  If you try to apply too much paint in one place you will end up with drip marks, and that’s never a good thing.  Also, always spray paint in a well ventilated area.  I usually spray paint outdoors.

I think the chair looks great with the other red accents I have in the kitchen! It displays my cookbooks and provides additional seating when we have a lot of company.  That’s $2 well spent if you ask me;)

Upcycled Night Stands

I have another thrifty guestroom project to share with you today……..

Last summer, I paid $4 a piece for these tables.    When we finally got around to fixing up the guestroom, I decided to use the garage sale tables as night stands for the room, but they needed a little fixing up before I used them in that space.

To do this, I painted the tables with some sample antique white Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint that I got for free with one of my paint purchases.

To add interest to the tables, I simply decoupaged the tops of each one with some scrapbook paper that I had in my craft closet.

And that's pretty much it:)  Another $10 project completed…..

.....and I really like the look and simplicity of my “new” night stands:)

Ruffle Ribbon Lamp

           A while back, I transformed these Goodwill lamps seen here and here into functional lamps for my home.  Around the same time, I came across this post at Big Lives and was inspired to create a similar lamp for our master bedroom. 

            I wish I had a before and after pic of my lamp, but I forgot to take pictures before and during this process.  Using an ugly $2 lamp base from a garage sale, a $1cream lamp shade from Goodwill, leftover ribbon and spray paint from previous projects and my hot glue gun, I was able to make this lamp for $3.  I spent $4 on the ribbon for a previous project and $2 on the paint, so this project would cost someone $9 at the most.

            This project was easy.  All I did was form ruffles with my ribbon while hot gluing it to the lamp shade.  I used two kinds of ribbon, forming five layers of ruffles.  Lastly, I spray painted the lamp silver.  I think it looks pretty good on my dresser.  It adds to the vintage feel of our bedroom.  What do you think?  Not too bad for $3 huh?  Gotta love repurposing someone else’s junkJ
